Hello
Hi, I’m Dr. Bonnie-Jéan Brown. My work sits at the intersection of public policy and health, with a focus on how systems and decisions shape real outcomes for people and communities. I’ve completed advanced training across policy leadership, drug and medical device development, and psychopharmacology, and I’m especially interested in translating complex health evidence into practical, ethical policy and program choices. As a consultant with The Refugee Archive, I help connect women’s lived experience to the policy and health questions decision-makers need to answer.
My Story
I’m a policy and operations leader who’s spent years working in high-stakes environments where decisions have real consequences. My work has included negotiations, conflict resolution, and multilateral mediation with public and private sector stakeholders, including high-profile clients and institutions across national security and government settings (including the Secret Service, FBI, CIA, Department of Defense, National Security Council, and Congress), as well as corporate partners. I’ve helped resolve complex policy, business, and family agreements, and I’ve served courts across multiple legal domains.
I’ve also worked at the executive level in professional services, including as CFO at a major law firm, where I was nominated for Virginia Business CFO of the Year (2022–2024). Across these roles, I’ve stayed focused on evidence-based, ethical public policy, particularly in healthcare and mental health. My academic work reflects that commitment, with policy leadership training at Georgetown, and additional study through Harvard and MIT in areas including psychopharmacology and drug and medical device development.
A current focus of my research is how policy and systems can better support safe, informed care, including questions around psychiatric medication use and discontinuation. I’ve also lived and worked overseas with the U.S. Navy and have spent years studying religious philosophies, which shapes how I approach culture, belief, and community life.
As a consultant with The Refugee Archive, I bring a policy and systems lens to help interpret stories responsibly and translate what women share into clear insights for research, program design, and advocacy.
